About the Role

Drive program adoption by developing and coordinating high-quality marketing interventions, building field team marketing capacity, and strengthening targeted community engagement. Monitor adoption performance, resolve field-level challenges, and provide dotted-line coaching to FDs and FOs to ensure consistent execution and achievement of adoption targets.

Responsibilities

Marketing & Adoption Strategy (Primary)

  • Develop and lead marketing and adoption strategies that strengthen farmer trust, build a high-quality farmer pipeline, and ensure achievement of seasonal adoption targets.
  • Design coordinated community engagement and mobilization systems that increase turnout, improve farmer understanding, and support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure consistent, farmer-centered communication by guiding the development of clear, compelling messaging and marketing materials for field teams.
  • Oversee execution quality in the field through routine visits, identifying messaging or delivery gaps, and coordinating corrective actions with FDs and FOs.
  • Use farmer insights and field feedback to continuously refine marketing strategy and communication approaches.

Adoption Data Analysis & Performance Improvement

  • Review weekly adoption data across PODs to identify bottlenecks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
  • Use data-driven insights to recommend both strategic and tactical improvements for marketing and enrollment.
  • Produce clear, actionable adoption post-mortems and recommend improvements grounded in learnings and field realities.

Field Team Coaching & Performance Support

  • In collaboration with relevant teams, provide ongoing coaching to FDs and FOs on marketing execution, communication skills, and community engagement.
  • Strengthen FO capacity to confidently articulate program value and build long-term trust with farmers.
  • Support FDs to plan, monitor, and troubleshoot weekly marketing and enrollment activities

Adoption Targets & Accountability

  • Accountable for achieving program, POD-, and site-level adoption targets through strong strategy execution, field coaching, and performance management.
  • Identify sites at risk of missing targets and deploy timely interventions to close performance gaps

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Close collaboration with the Communication, Social behavior change, government relations, and field team.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Knowledge of community engagement, marketing, or social behavior change in rural settings.
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, marketing, or adoption-focused roles within the development or social impact sector.
  • Ability to design farmer-centered communication and outreach strategies
  • Moderate data analysis (Google Sheets, dashboards) and ability to interpret adoption trends and translate insights into field actions.
  • Experience designing or executing multi-channel marketing campaigns. Could include field activations, SMS, radio, community engagement.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Coaching and facilitation skills to build field officers and field directors marketing capacity. (Nice to have)

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
