Africa Foundation is a registered, non-profit organisation in South Africa that uplifts, up- skills and empowers identified rural communities near core conservation areas.Using methods developed in rural villages over the years, the Foundation has partnered with over 80 communities to provide support and assistance across Africa, from KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga in South Africa to East Africa, Botswana and Namibia.Founded in 1992, Africa Foundation is an independent, non-profit, tax-exempt organisation registered in South Africa• Education • Health (including water & sanitation) • Income Generating Activities • Environment

General Information

  • Raised and committed over US$8 million to projects in six African countries • Built a positive reputation internationally and nationally for facilitating effective and sustainable community development initiatives • Facilitated the development of 80 schools in the construction of more than 170 classrooms, upgrading and renovating 18 pre-schools, building 2 administration blocks, 4 libraries and 3 media centres; thus improving academic facilities for approximately 10,000 children per annum • Facilitated the construction of 10 kitchens at schools to strengthen access to government support for school nutrition programmes • Facilitated access for more than 500 teachers and more that 7,000 school children to Conservation Lessons • Managed a bursary Programme; granting scholarships to more that 250 aspirant community leaders • Facilitated the construction of and supported four clinics in remote rural areas – one of which, the Mduku Clinic outside &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal is open 24-hours a day and serves over 11,000 people in the region. Another, the Ololosokwan Clinic in Tanzania serves between 350 and 700 people a week with just one doctor in attendance • Facilitated the construction of more than 100 environmentally-friendly EnivroLoos at schools and community-based institutions • Implemented access to potable water for more than 25,000 school children at schools • Facilitated the provision of more than 3,600 Hippo Water Rollers • Led HIV/AIDS capacity-building initiatives which have helped transform people’s lives • Established a DevCentre project to “bridge the digital divide” and provide access to technology • Established a Skills and Health Centre to provide training and access to positive living • Supported five centres for orphaned and vulnerable children • Facilitated the establishment of 12 food gardens to promote food security and nutrition • Facilitated the installation of electricity at schools and community-based institutions to promote access to new technology
