Uviwe keeps the child's best interest and well-being at the core of all decisions. Our programmes are implemented at individual child, family and community level to achieve our ultimate image our approcahgoal, i.e. “To build communities fit to raise every one of its children. We work on a preventative level to prevent crime, abuse and neglect of vulnerable children. Early intervention programmes focus on children, youth and families that are already identified as “at risk”, or in need of care and protection. Statutory services are carried out according to the provisions of the Children’s Act 38/2005.We are a registered child protection organisation situated in the vibrant city of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. We partner with various stakeholders to deliver developmental social services since 1917. Our excellent track record confirms our ability to stay connected to communities and to develop responsive child and youth programmes at grassroots level. Our primary focus has always been the “protection of children’s rights” and to unlock young people’s full potential to become economically active citizens.Our aim is to attend to needs of specifically orphaned, “at risk” and vulnerable children, child victims of crime, children already in alternative care placements and pre-school children excluded from early childhood development programmes. Our programmes are however not excluding any child or family living in the Metro.Our primary objective: The creation of a caring society, protective of children’s rights and to develop our youth to reach their full potential as economically active citizens of our city.Our secondary objective: To strengthen sustainable partnerships in local communities to build effective child protection systems through collaboration with civil society organisations, government departments and the business sector.Uviwe’s child protection model is constantly adapted to meet the changing needs of families. We embrace an integrated model that focusses holistically on child protection, victim empowerment, early childhood and youth development programmes.
