We are looking for A FIELD COORDINATOR – BUEA – CAMEROON
Context: In Cameroon, based in Buea
Action Against Hunger has been present in Cameroon since 1998. Since 2014, our action has focused mainly in the Eastern Region and the Far North of the country on emergency programs initiated with refugees and affected host communities by socio-political unrest in CAR and violence related to Boko Haram activity in the Lake Chad region. Action Against Hunger has set up emergency and long-term nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene programs. Since the end of 2018, Action Against Hunger is also present in the South-West, in support of the crisis that rages in this region.
Our 2020 strategy is based on responding to immediate humanitarian needs and contributing to economic recovery and strengthening resilience and social cohesion in Cameroon.
There are 140 employees on the mission, working in 5 bases: Batouri in the East, Maroua and Kousseri in the Far North, Buéa in the South West and coordination in Yaoundé.
While there is no security concern in most of Cameroon, the Far North region remains an area of vigilance with regular attacks of armed groups in the area bordering Nigeria. Similarly, the Northwest / Southwest regions are currently very unstable.
The AAH team in Buea is made of20 staff. AAH has set up mobile clinics on the Buea-Kumba axis and is working in Kumba in partnership with Caritas. AAH has also an assessment team doing assessments and providing NFI in other axis. The security situation is very tense and fragile on this area and movement to the field are restricted. The management and monitoring of the team movement and security is key to the implementation of the project and to the team security. The quality of the programming and strict respect of humanitarian principles are key to our acceptance.
Length of contract: 6 months, starting as soon as possible
The position:You ensure definition and implementation of Action Against Hunger response in the area of responsibility
More precisely your missions will be:
- Coordinate the overall implementation of Action Against Hunger operations at field level
- Contribute to the identification of new intervention opportunities; design and conduct relevant assessments in collaboration with the program teams
- Gather and analyse data on the situation in South West region (security, access, ongoing responses and needs given gaps)
- Manage the teams at field level, ensuring a successful transition towards 2nd phase of development of the base
- Structure and strengthen the newly open base
- Actively participate in relevant coordination mechanisms; represent Action Against Hunger towards partners
- Proactively follow the security situation manage and ensure the security of staffs, premises, materials and assets. In relation with the Access and security Manager to ensure the access to the areas of intervention, and contribute to the definition and implementation of the access strategy
The applicant:
- You hold a Master’s Degree, ideally in Humanitarian Program Coordination, International Development, International Relations
- You have at least three years of field experience in operational management of humanitarian programs in similar role; experience in emergency context required
- You have a minimum of two years’ experience in a managerial role
- You have excellent capacity of strategic humanitarian context analysis
- You have substantial knowledge of standard logistics procedures and practices
- You developed good knowledge of financial and HR procedures
- You know Action Against Hunger intervention sectors (You have strong communication, networking and representation skills (written, oral, cross cultural)
- You have leadership and management skills in a complex international setting
- You have training, coaching, capacity building experience and skills
- Your English (oral and written) is professional**. For security reasons, French speaker applicants would not be considered.**
Status:
Salary and profits:
- Monthly gross salary from €1805 to €2305 upon experience.
- Per diem and living allowance: 521 € net – paid in the field
- + 12 % of monthly gross salary as country allowance
- + 16% of monthly gross salary as reimbursement of retirement insurance for non-French citizen.
- + Child allowance, limited to 5 children
Transportation and accommodation:
- Coverage of transportation costs to and in the mission.
- Individual room in guesthouse covered
Medical coverage:100% coverage of medical expenses + repatriation insurance.
Leaves and RnR:
- 25 days of paid leaves per year.
- 20 RnR per year.
- 215 € at each RnR period (every 8 weeks).
- Coverage of the transportation expenses to the RnR area of reference.
Training:
- · Free and unlimited access to the certifying e-learning platform Cross knowledge ©.
- · Technical trainings at HQ or regional level (averagely 1 per year).
- · Participation to external trainings costs upon eligibility of the request.
- · HEAT training will be provided (if no previous HEAT training)
