Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFHK) is an affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity International network, comprising 70 country affiliates. Established in 1982 as a Non-Governmental Organization, HFHK’s primary objective is to facilitate access to decent and affordable shelter for low-income families across Kenya.

Over the past four decades, HFHK has impacted over 340,000 families in thirteen counties through housing microfinance and direct construction initiatives. Our approach to housing emphasizes a holistic perspective, addressing various factors such as construction, water, sanitation, energy, land tenure, and policy advocacy to foster sustainable development.

In line with our strategic vision, our Business Plan (2020-2025) outlines four Programmatic Areas:Financing for owner-led construction**,** Settlement-Based Practice**,** Secure Land Tenure**,** and Disaster Risk Reduction & Response (DR3)

Currently, HFHK operates in Laikipia, Nairobi, Homabay, Makueni, Kisumu, Tana River, and Machakos. Through targeted interventions and strategic partnerships, we aim to expand our reach and make a meaningful impact in communities throughout Kenya.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, we would like to produce an Annual Report to showcase our achievements, impacts, and financial performance over the past two years. We are seeking a skilled copywriter consultant to assist in crafting compelling narratives and content for our upcoming Annual Report.

Objectives:

The primary objective of this consultancy is to provide professional copywriting services to develop engaging and impactful content for the HFHK (Habitat for Humanity Kenya) Annual Report. The consultant will work closely with our communications team to ensure that the report effectively communicates our accomplishments, challenges, and future outlook.

The assignment includes:

  • Reviewing of the existing communications for different thematic programs at HFH Kenya.
  • Develop content for HFHK’s thematic programs
  • Design and print publications to be used for brand promotion of HFHK’s programs

Scope of Work:

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Reviewing provided materials including project reports, impact data, financial statements, and other relevant documents.
  • Conducting interviews with key stakeholders, including program managers, beneficiaries, and staff, to gather additional insights and stories.
  • Developing clear and concise narratives that highlight the organization’s achievements, impact stories, and key statistics.
  • Ensuring alignment of content with organizational branding, messaging, and strategic goals.
  • Providing revisions and incorporating feedback from the communications team to ensure the final report meets quality standards.

Deliverables:

The consultant will deliver the following:

  • Draft copy for the HFHK Annual Report, including sections such as executive summary, program highlights, impact stories, financial overview, and acknowledgments.
  • Revisions based on feedback from the communications team.
  • Final copy of the Annual Report in both editable and PDF formats.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in copywriting, preferably in the non-profit or development sector.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear and engaging narratives.
  • Familiarity with issues related to housing, community development, or similar fields is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with a remote team.
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in English.
