Proposal Summary:

MSI is seeking a Countering Violent-Extremism Conflict Specialist for the USAID-funded Northern Economic Livelihoods for Youth (NELY) Activity in Benin. The goal of this multi-year program is to improve economic livelihoods for young men and women in northern Benin vulnerable to recruitment by violent extremist organizations.

Position Summary:

MSI is seeking a Countering Violent-Extremism Conflict Specialist to serve as a core team member overseeing the activity’s strategic vision of countering violent extremism through supporting the youth. This includes coordinating the stabilization activities within the broader framework and with the Benin NELY teams. This will be a full-time position based in Cotonou or Parakou, Benin. This position is contingent upon award.

**Please note: Only Beninese citizens are eligible for this position**

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic vision, management and technical direction of program activities related to countering violent extremism.
  • Build relationships with the private sector, relevant government ministries, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of aspects of the work plan related to countering violent extremism.
  • Support economic development assessments and use data to inform programming.
  • Collaborate with operations, monitoring & evaluation, grants, and other program teams to implement, monitor, and closeout activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in a relevant technical field such as conflict mitigation, peace and security, CVE, etc.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience working in complex development projects.
  • Technical expertise in countering violent extremism, peace and security, conflict mitigation, community engagement, youth engagement and empowerment, good governance, etc.
  • French and English required, and a local language preferred.
  • Preference for local or regional hire.
