Position

The Support to the Africa Led Movement to End FGM/C programme has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Deputy Team Leader specialising in operations to join our team and be part of the senior management team of the programme. The DTL, Operations, will be responsible for providing strategic and managerial oversight to the programme and will work closely with the Team Leader to ensure effective and smooth delivery of this FCDO-funded programme.

Summary purpose and objective of the role

  • The Deputy Team Leader, Operations sits in the senior management team and is responsible for the day-to-day management of ALM team to ensure efficient and high-quality programme delivery.
  • The DTL, Operations reports to and works closely in partnership with the Team Leader to manage the consortium partners and client relations. The role also oversees the Programme Management and Finance teams in Nairobi and London including the management of HR, programme finances, and contracts and compliance.
  • The role is responsible for quality assuring work plans and budgets, financial forecasting and management, strategic support to personnel management, recruitment, contracting, risk management and procurement.
  • The DTL, Operations is responsible for ensuring the operational aspects are functioning efficiently, with timely and proactive planning and financial management that ensures value for money and the coordinated delivery of activities.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Post-graduate degree in relevant subject (public health, business or the social sciences) or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Extensive experience in leading the coordination of complex multi-country programmes and experience working at a senior management level or above for at least five years.
  • Proven experience in strategic work planning, risk management and managing large, complex, multi-country budgets.
  • Diplomatic and clear communications with staff, stakeholders, and clients
  • Good negotiation skills and strong decision-making and trouble-shooting skills.
