Local Position

Role PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to provide transportation services to Plan staff in a safe, courteous and timely manner.

Dimensions of the Role

  • Vehicle maintenance and management in respect of vehicle use policy,
  • Cleans vehicle and perform routine checks to ensure it has proper working tools on a daily basis.
  • Refuels vehicle using an approved fuel voucher and records this on the vehicle log sheet timeously and as written in vehicle use policy.
  • Parks vehicle safely at designated place at the end of each working day not later than 6 pm.
  • Ensures that after hours travels have prior formal approval by the CD.
  • Ensure vehicle movement log book is filled timely and regularly.
  • To report immediately to the Administrative Coordinator, all accidents or issues involving Plan International vehicles.
  • Compliance to the motor vehicle and travel policy provisions of Plan international Cameroon.Staff and material transportation:
  • Transports staff and designated people to all areas as instructed and with approved vehicle request forms.
  • Ensure vehicles have necessary materials such as umbrellas, first aid box, map, fire extinguishers etc.
  • Ensure that all Plan assets are not left unattended in the vehicle whilst parked.
  • Files in accurately vehicle log books and submits to the Administrative Coordinator.
  • Prepares monthly vehicles’ usage reports for allocated vehicles (cost recovery).

Accountabilities

  • Observe, anticipate and  drive defensively to safeguard life and property  always,
  • Exhibit a good sense of judgment and responsibility while driving,
  • In case of accident, make sure a Police report is made before moving,
  • Works with minimum supervision.

  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Key relationships

  • Low contact with service providers and suppliers for the collection of quotations, receiving and dispatch of goods, material, equipments, mails, deposits etc.
  • Maintains a  high contact with all country office and program unit staff to facilitate prompt  movement of staff towards the implementation of  Plan’s  programs and activities 

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

Essential

  • – GCE O level/SSS
  • – At least 3 years driving experience in the formal sector
  • – Valid driving license with at least class B/D
  • – Experience in the NGO sector preferably with child-related development issues, would be an advantage

Desirable

  • Basic auto mechanic skills
  • Good knowledge of Highway Code
  • Good communication skills
  • Good verbal and writing skills
  • Good inter-personal skills
