BACKGROUND OF AATF
The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) is an African-led, charitable organization registered in the UK, Kenya, and Nigeria with a footprint in thirty-two (32) African countries dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa by facilitating access to innovative agricultural technologies. AATF’s mission is to transform the livelihoods of smallholders in Sub-Saharan Africa, underpinned by a vision of a prosperous, resilient, food- and nutrition-secure Africa. HOME – AATF
AATF is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for strategic direction and oversight, executive leadership oversight, financial stewardship, governance and policy setting, programme oversight, and legal and ethical compliance.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI)
AATF invites EoI from suitable candidates to serve as Trustee Observers on the AATF Board of Trustees from the following regions: Southern Africa, Western Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Asia, or the Middle East.
Interested candidates must have experience and expertise in at least two (2) of the following thematic areas:
- Resource mobilization and partnerships;
- Business strategy, innovation, and design thinking;
- Biotechnology and biosafety regulatory affairs;
- Digital agriculture & emerging technologies;
- Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI);
- Public policy, trade, regulatory affairs; and
- Inclusivity, gender, and youth in agriculture.
Additionally, they must demonstrate:
- Integrity and ethical leadership;
- Strategic and analytical thinking;
- Strong communication and consensus-building skills;
- Appreciation for cultural diversity and multi-country contexts;
- Passion for agricultural development and African-led innovation; and
- The ability to navigate complex governance and development ecosystems.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEE OBSERVERS
Potential candidates shall be expected to attend one in-person and one virtual Board meeting to perform tasks and support strategic engagements as needed. Additionally, they shall participate in at least one meeting of any of the following Committees:
- Programme Development and Commercialization;
- Nominating and Governance;
- Audit and Risk;
- Resource Mobilization and Sustainability; and
- Ad hoc Task Forces

The Nominating and Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees shall review the applications and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for their approval.
