Graduation Approach Advisor, Somalia 62 views0 applications

About the Opportunity

Trickle Up Program seeks a Graduation Approach (GA) Advisor, as part of its participation in a consortium preparing a bid for an anticipated USAID-funded Resilience Food Security Activity (RFSA) in Somalia to improve and sustain the food and nutrition security of vulnerable populations. This Activity will work at the individual, household, community, and institutional levels to address the underlying causes of food insecurity and malnutrition and strengthen transformative opportunities. The Activity is intended to strengthen resilience in populations vulnerable to acute, chronic hunger, and malnutrition; recurrent shocks, stresses, and crises; and to reduce the need for ongoing or future emergency food assistance.

This position is vital in ensuring that the activity design aligns with the principles of the Graduation Approach, and in maintaining the technical quality and integrity of the project. The GA Advisor will play a critical role in integrating social dimensions, particularly focusing on social inclusion and the resilience of marginalized populations, into food security and community resilience activities.

This activity is expected to be a five-year program in the $60-80 million range.

This is a Key Personnel position, subject to USAID approval. It is also subject to project award and funding. National and international candidates are encouraged to apply. This position will be based in Mogadishu. This is an unaccompanied post location.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the implementation of the five components of the graduation approach, ensuring adherence to the project’s framework and goals.
  • Apply an in-depth understanding of gender, age, and socio-cultural factors in participant targeting and program design.
  • Ensure social dimensions of food security and community resilience are addressed effectively across all components of the activity.
  • Focus on social inclusion, particularly on IDP, marginalized populations, gender, and youth integration, to achieve intended outcomes.
  • Collaborate with M&E Lead, Strategic Learning Advisor and Resilience and Livelihoods Technical Advisor for the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from diverse sources.
  • Ensure that all components of the graduation approach are integrated and create multiplier effects.
  • Maintain consistent, high-quality technical implementation among sub-awardees and implementation locations.
  • Ensure technical interventions are integrated, layered, and sequenced appropriately within the activity and with external stakeholders including USAID, the private sector, other donors, and Federal Government of Somalia.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5 years of related experience in implementing the graduation approach required.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing the five components of the graduation approach and have an in-depth understanding of how gender, age and other locally relevant socio-cultural factors may play a role in targeting participants.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources in collaboration with the M&E Lead, Strategic Learning Advisor and Resilience and Livelihoods Technical Advisor.
  • Excellent management, interpersonal, facilitation, monitoring skills, and the ability to network and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and field experience in low resource environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as evidenced in previous management positions and programming.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Harassment (PSEAH).

Pioneers in ending extreme poverty

Trickle Up has been a pioneer graduating people out of extreme poverty since 1979. We’ve helped more than one million of the poorest, most vulnerable people move to greater economic self-sufficiency and connection with their communities.

It’s about more than just money

We provide the very poorest people with seed capital grants, skills training and coaching, and the support they need to create small businesses. We connect them to savings groups where they save money and access credit with others, create plans for the future and enact change in their communities. We help people connect with others in their villages, build self-confidence and find their voice because poverty is about more than just money—it’s about exclusion.

Reaching the last mile of poverty

We reach the extreme poor, those living on less than $1.90 a day, who are most economically and socially excluded. Our focus is helping women, people with disabilities, refugees and other vulnerable people who live beyond the reach of most organizations and social service programs. We go where the need is greatest–to the very poorest parts of rural India, Africa, and Latin America.

The next million people

We’re committed to the global goal to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030. Our goal in the next five years is to lift more than a million people out of extreme poverty. To make it happen, we are establishing partnerships with local organizations, global institutions and governments who have the capacity to reach far more of the poorest than we could ever reach working on our own.
