Start date: November-December 2024

Purpose of the role

The Gynaecologist will contribute to the improvement of the quality of care offered by Rumbek Hospital, by enhancing gynecological and obstetric services, guaranteeing the prompt management of emergencies and training health staff.

Key duties:

  • Management and clinical support of obstetric and gynecological services, with a focus on obstetric emergencies and in coordination with the staff on duty.
  • Improve the organization of these services, ensuring staff coordination and the correct use of materials and equipment.
  • Training and supervision of health staff in applying national and international guidelines and standards, collaborating in daily on-the-job training and in the continuous training program.
  • Ensure night on-call availability for emergencies.
  • Collaborate on data collection and analysis.
  • Support and control drugs prescription and consumption in the relevant services.
  • Participation in the maternal and perinatal mortality monitoring system
  • Tutor/mentor Italian residents taking part in the JPO (Junior Project Officer) initiative

Requirements

  • University Degree in Medicine and Specialisation in Gynaecology and Obstetrics
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • At least 3 years of professional clinical experience as a specialist at hospital level
  • Previous experience in fragile or low income countries
  • Ability of adapting skills and competencies to contexts with limited resources and capacity to effectively cooperate with national and international staff.
  • Adaptability to work and live in rural area

TERMS OF CONTRACT

  • Type of contract: collaboration contract
  • Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience, country risk allowance, rural area hardship allowance)
  • Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work
  • Flight ticket: one return flight
  • Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs
  • Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa and work/residence permits
  • Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace
  • Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
  • R&R: 1 week of rest every 11 weeks of work, with allowance to cover costs
