About the Job
The Health Field Officer is the focal point for all matters related to the ICRC supported SRCS primary health care program in his/her area of responsibility and contributes to implementation, smooth running and monitoring of the PHC programme in cooperation with the project team, according to the objectives set out in the annual planning.
This is a resident/National position based in Bardhere.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to assessment and identification of health needs of a given population, considering vulnerable groups and community coping mechanisms and involvement in the field
- Makes regular field visits to assess, monitor and support the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) Branch Health Officers for Primary Health Care/nutrition program implementation with a comprehensive Field Trip Report (FTR) evaluating the program impact and making recommendations
- Participates in regular meetings between SRCS and ICRC teams for elaborate interactions focusing on streamlining activities
- Trains and supports PHC/Nutrition SRCS Branch Health Officer (BHO) in implementation of the PHC program
- Contributes to revisions of health and nutrition databases and guidelines
- Offers Health services in accordance with evidence-based health strategies in line with international standards, institutional guidelines, Somalia National Treatment guidelines and delegation priorities
- Ensures that updated guidelines are implemented and followed in the ICRC supported health programs
- Ensures availability of optimum stock levels for Medical, non-medical and Nutritional items
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
- University Degree in Medicine or Bachelor of Nursing qualification with sound knowledge on curative and preventive care, reproductive health, and Nutrition
- 5 years’ work experience in a similar field
- Significant knowledge of hospital/Primary Health Care management methodologies, including design, implementation, analysis, and reporting
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali
- Team leadership and strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously
- Good knowledge of the Political, Social and Cultural affairs of the assigned environment
- Proficiency in MS Office suite
