Job Summary

The People and Culture Intern provides clerical, administrative, and technical support to the Cameroon Country Office. The incumbent will support with the management of Human Capital and ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of the Country Program.

This position, based in Yaounde, Cameroon and reports to the Senior Officer, People and Culture.

Responsibilities

  1. Recruitment
  • Support in translating job descriptions from English to French.
  • Publish job vacancies on relevant job boards and assist in scheduling interviews.
  • Support in conducting background and reference checks for successful candidates.
  • Support in following up with hiring managers to ensure interview reports are submitted and filed.
  • Send regrets to unsuccessful applicants.
  1. Document Management
  • Assist in managing physical and electronic filing of the People and Culture Department by ensuring that all files are compliant, up-to-date, and complete. Share the employee filing system with the other offices.
  1. Contract Management.
  • Assist in drafting employment offer letters and contracts.
  • Support the Country Program by ensuring legal compliance following AWF and local labour laws, standards and procedures.
  1. Performance Management
  • Support in the coordination of onboarding and performance review process.
  • Assist in the preparation of confirmation letters for staff upon successful completion of their probationary review period.
  1. Benefits Administration
  • Supporting in enrolling new hires in various benefit covers.
  • Communicate details of exiting staff to the insurance broker to facilitate their termination from AWF’s benefits.
  1. Other Duties

  • Support in making all administrative information available to the staff including policies.
  • Support in translating documents into French and assisting in setting up meetings upon request.
  • Supporting in ensuring HR systems are updated timely with ongoing changes.
  • Assist in retrieving documents for audit purposes as needed.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as required by the supervisor.

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or a related field.
  • Professional certification in Human Resources is desirable.
  • 1 year in a non-profit organization will be an added advantage.
  • Understanding of local labor law
  • Proven experience in an international context.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good customer service skills with patience and a sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with HRIS systems or ability to learn.
  • Fluency in both French and English with good writing skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with the highest level of professionalism.
