The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a global humanitarian organization with a mission to work with people in poverty and distress to create just and positive change. ADRA is seeking to recruit a Protection and Safeguarding officer to be based in Kismayu with frequent travels to other parts of Somalia.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Capacity Building

  • Support the design and organization required for assessments, baselines and evaluations for Protection and Safeguarding.
  • Work with other protection and safeguarding team in identifying training needs and develop a capacity development strategy/plan for Protection and Safeguarding for project teams and partners as appropriate.
  • Assist in reviewing protection and safeguarding strategic direction and plans for responding to the vulnerable people in the community.
  • Work with the program team in collaboration with the rest of the safeguarding and protection team to oversee implementation of protection and safeguarding issues in project activities ensuring that services are delivered on time, on budget and in compliance with donor regulations.
  • Conduct training to communities on protection and safeguarding.
  • Ensure that protection and safeguarding matters are adhered to during project implementation.
  • Give support in identifying needs and gaps in programming and proactively suggest new activities to enhance the protection and safeguarding activity.
  • Assist in monitoring protection and safeguarding programme activities at field level, ensuring quality of implementation and flagging concerns to the Project Manager
  • Input into the development of MEAL and indicator tracking plans including MEAL data tools as necessary to monitor project progress.
  • Contribute to the development of case studies for the purpose of reporting, advocacy and media efforts

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:

  • At least 5 years of working experience in Protection and Safeguarding in emergency, fragile state or development programmes
  • Relevant university degree (preferably Post-graduate) in social work, social sciences, development or other relevant field
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in human rights, child protection, child/youth/community resilience, psychosocial support, community/youth development and mobilization, especially in an emergency context
  • Understanding of the protection and safeguarding code of conduct.
  • Commitment to and understanding of ADRA’s core values and principles including rights-based approaches.
