Chemonics seeks long- and short-term technical specialists for an anticipated five year, USAID site-based conservation project in Madagascar. The project aims to reduce threats to targeted ecosystems through improved community-based natural resource management; expand opportunities for market-led and conservation-compatible economic development; increase access to social services for targeted communities near areas of high biodiversity value; and support policy initiatives to promote land tenure and natural resource use rights. The project will focus on two to three priority geographic zones facing specific, significant threats to terrestrial and marine ecosystems. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Chemonics seeks long- and short-term specialists in the following areas:

  • Environmental conservation
  • Community-based natural resource management
  • Biodiversity and wildlife protection
  • Marine biology/ecology
  • Sustainable forestry
  • Climate change adaptation and climate resilience
  • Biodiversity conservation finance
  • Sustainable livelihoods
  • Inclusion of women and youth
  • Environmental education and communication
  • Participatory community development
  • Public-private partnerships
  • Institutional strengthening
  • Natural resource governance
  • Monitoring and evaluation

Illustrative responsibilities include:

  • Provide analysis and actionable recommendations using existing diagnostic tools or by developing custom tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components of the project
  • Provide technical input on the development and management of activities and development of the work plan
  • Facilitate training, capacity development, and knowledge sharing across the project and with project stakeholders where required

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical area
  • Minimum five years of demonstrated experience in the relevant technical area
  • Knowledge and experience in Madagascar conservation and development context strongly preferred
  • Experience on USAID or other donor-funded programs strongly preferred
  • Outstanding leadership, management, and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to conceptualize and lead technical tasks
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English and French proficiency required
