The purpose of the Head of Programme position is to develop and ensure implementation of holistic high-quality programmes

General Responsibilities:

  1. Line management for Core Competence Specialists
  2. Member of the Country Management Group (CMG)
  3. Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  4. Provide programme input to Country Strategy and Plan of Action
  5. Development of Core Competency strategies that are aligned to regional and global priorities and strategies
  6. Development of holistic and needs based programmes, including cash-based interventions and marked based programmes
  7. Identify funding opportunities, develop funding strategies and forecasts
  8. Grants management, BPO allocations and reporting to donors, including compliance with donor standards
  9. Quality control, M&E and organizational learning

Specific responsibilities:

  • Deputy CD when appointed (suggestion – exclude if not applicable)
  • Responsible for the CC programmatic input to the contingency plan (suggestion – exclude if not applicable)
  • Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programmes in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
  • Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses

Professional Competencies

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience from a senior management position in a humanitarian/ recovery context
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Core competency expertise
  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market based programmes
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Valid driver’s license

Context/ Specific skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in (Kenya and Tanzania)
  • Experience from advocacy work
  • Experience with start-up, exit or similar

Additional Details:

Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya

Type of Contract: 2years renewable- renewable

Salary: Based upon the NRC grading Scale
