Dimensions of the role:

  • The Field Officers shall be responsible for follow up the project implementation plans, overseeing project implementation and liaising with relevant stakeholders.
  • They will also provide supervision, technical support and guidance to the project partners.
  • The Field Officers shall also be responsible for producing project progress reports aligned with donor requirements, monitoring activity progress in the field and provide accurate and timely status reports and support development of donor reports.
  • They will oversee financial spending for the project – both for Plan and implementing partners.
  • Field Officers will support the coordination of all activities of the target beneficiaries and partners.
  • Field Officers will provide partners with technical and capacity support.
  • The field Officer will perform his/her duties and responsibilities in accordance to the project proposal and in addition to the programmatic, administrative and financial policies/ regulations of Plan International.
  • He/she will also be responsible for supporting the development of project implementation plans and ensure effective coordination and team work.
  • Field Officers will facilitate regular collaborative partner and other staff reflection and coordination meetings and to ensure effective implementation of project activities as per the set timelines and develop mechanism for implementation plan review and modification to achieve the set objectives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Works together with Plan staff, partners and other technical partner/s in developing activity plans, reports, and other implementation and monitoring tasks, as required.
  • Represents Plan in a “front-line” role, effectively and efficiently communicating the project’s objectives, activities and methodology to project stakeholders.
  • Assists the Project coordinator with the preparation of plans and reports and other administrative tasks, as required.

Dealing with Problems:
Application of knowledge required for the role, complexity of problems handled & the degree of investigation, analysis, & creative thinking required to solve them.

  • Demonstrated capacity to solve challenging issues/concerns with collaborating project partners.
  • Effective and positive collaborative and mentorship style that motivates staff to high levels of performance.
  • High level of problem solving techniques with demonstrated capacity to coach teams to solve inter-personal conflicts and other operational challenges.

Knowledge, Skills, Behaviours, and Experience Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:

 

Knowledge

  • Bachelor degree in development, business studies, social science, economics, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in development and/or humanitarian organizations.
  • Expertise in income generation, entrepreneurship, gender, self-employment, poverty alleviation, livelihood development, and social inclusion will be an asset.
  • Strong facilitation skills, including the design and management of effective trainings, workshops and meetings with a diverse population is desirable.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work effectively with people of different cultural contexts.
  • Effective team player, able to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Flexible, creative and problem solving-oriented.
  • Competence with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skills

  • Fluency in English and Arabic and ability to effectively write reports.
  • Proven skills in effective coordination, mentorship and working in multi-stakeholder collaborative environment.
  • Problem solving, team working, conflict resolution, strong communication and planning skills.

Behaviours

  • Ability to handle stress and deliver under tight deadlines

Physical Environment and Demands:

  • Typically office environment with frequent field visits and travelling to the project locations, Country Office to attend scheduled meetings etc.

  • The position will be based at the Program Unit with regular visits to field and project location, the level of contact with children is high.

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live. The charity also has 21 national organisations who have been given the responsibility to oversee the raising of funds and awareness in their individual countries.

The organisation puts an emphasis on communities working together in order to address the needs of children around the world. The NGO focuses on child participation, education, economic security, emergencies, health, protection, sexual health (including HIV), and water and sanitation. It provides training in disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and has worked on relief efforts in countries including Haiti, Colombia and Japan.

Plan International also sponsors the Because I Am a Girl campaign, which has published many stories focusing on the struggle of young women in the developing world.

Plan International was founded during the Spanish Civil War by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and aid worker Eric Muggeridge. When they witnessed the conflict change the lives of children, they founded ‘Foster Parents Plan for Children in Spain’, which would later change its name to Plan International. Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
