The Opportunity

The Sahel Nexus program Coordinator will support the implementation of the Sahel Program of Plan International Germany. This 12.5 Mio EUR multi-country program is based on Plan International’s Regional Sahel Strategy 2020-2025 and was developed in cooperation with the Country Offices of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. It comprises the following intervention areas: 1. child protection, 2. food security, 3. socio-economic empowerment of adolescents and youth (YEE), and 4. conflict transformation/social cohesion.

To cover the four intervention areas, the Sahel Program me will be financed using different funding instruments of the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) as well as the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). With this, Plan International aims to contribute to the strengthening of the Central Sahel region within the framework of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus.

Do you have what it takes?

You will be responsible of the all the project management aspects of the GFFO & BMZ funded intervention across the three countries by pro-actively provide guidance and technical support to the implementing project teams in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger in all phases of the GFFO & BMZ project cycle (from start-up to project closure) where required

You will support influencing initiatives that advance the rights and equality of girls and youth in the Central Sahel and participate actively in decision-making at the Central Sahel and in the host country

You will coordinate and interlink the GFFO and BMZ interventions with each other and across the three countries to ensure coherence by providing information to the respective country office’s Disaster Risk Managers (DRMs)/Emergency Response Managers (ERMs) and GFFO/BMZ project managers – this will be done through joint quarterly conference calls as well as face-to-face meetings while in country. This includes coordination and sharing lessons with similar donor-funded projects in the neighboring multi-country Lake Chad program

You will ensure that lessons learnt on the intervention are systematically documented/captured and can be used for further implementation improvement as well as development of new interventions

You will orient/guide the respective project teams of Plan International in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger on key international humanitarian standards like Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), Sphere Standards, Child Protection Management System (CPMS) and SGBV in Emergencies

You will provide orientation and guidance on key processes in implementing and reporting on emergency response projects to the GFFO/BMZ intervention teams at country office level

You will support country office resource mobilization teams and Plan International Germany on securing funds for continuous program scale up through providing lessons learnt and project related contextual information and identifying potential extension/follow up intervention sectors
